South Florida Water Management District has just awarded the City of St. Cloud and Lake Nona Property Holdings grants, which will help with water conservation.
Lake Nona was awarded with a $50,000 grant that will allow them to put into place a water irrigation system that uses substantially less water than what they had previously. St. Cloud has been awarded $15,000, which will be used to place automatic flushing devices in its water hydrants. These automatic flushes will have small quantities of water being flushed through the hydrant as opposed to the large amounts currently being used. These projects are expected to reduce water consumption anywhere between ten million and twenty million gallons of water per year.
Seventeen grants were awarded in total and these will save 311 million gallons of water per year. This grant program, which started in 2002, has saved over 1.56 billion gallons of water each year.
